About Liz Johndrow
I enjoy spaces that bring me in touch with my natural surroundings. As a builder, I was thrilled to discover I could bring that contact deeper into my home experience through my choice of building materials. Since that discovery, I have been exploring the world of cob, strawbale, adobe, earthbag, earthen plasters and floor systems, and timber framing. The simplicity of these systems and materials allow for people of all ages and abilities to participate. The past few years have taken me further into the role of teacher, facilitator, instructor and co-conspirator. I am increasingly passionate about helping others learn these skills so they in turn can share their vision of beautiful, sustainable, and socially just structures. My more recent work in Nicaragua with the women and youth in the northern pueblos has been my most challenging and rewarding work thus far.
"I recently met Liz while she was facilitating at NBX 2011 in Asheville. I was impressed and amazed by her vast knowledge of so many natural building techniques and her work experience. Liz was an absolute joy to work with; I plan to collaborate with her on future projects and use her as a mentor as I grow within my own career."April Magill, Architect, SC

Tadelakt Plaster Workshop Sept 2013
see photos from this workshop here
This WAS a one-of-a-kind experience to learn the exacting process of this ancient waterproof lime plaster technique on three outdoor earthen couches in the new True Terana Peace Park in Carbondale, CO in Sept 2013.
But stay tuned for more opportunities!
Ryan Chivers is widely recognized as one of the leading practitioners of Tadelakt in the U.S. In 2005 he studied the Tadelakt technique in Marrakech, Morocco and has been instrumental in developing a viable Tadelakt system that works on the various building systems most commonly found in this country. Ryan is the owner of Artesano Plaster in Boulder CO. Liz Johndrow will be assisting Ryan in this weeklong tadelakt workshop in Carbondale, Colorado.
