Liz recently had the opportunity to assist Ryan Chivers of Artesano Tadelakt in a five-day tadelakt workshop in collaboration with Greenweaver Inc. These cob/tadelakt couches are part of a community space created by True Nature Healing Arts in Carbondale, Co.

Nicaragua 2013 - Working with Las Mujeres Solares and Las Mujeres Constructoras

Liz led two community build projects in northern Nicaragua this year. She was sponsored by Worldwide Shelters and worked with two women-oriented organizations. Both support the economical and educational advancement of women and greater environmental awareness. Liz has introduced contemporary styles of natural building in these regions where the vernacular building style is earth adobe block. The contemporary elements can be introduced while celebrating tradition. Here is a gallery of the work and nearly finished projects. You can learn more about the projects here.

WASI Apprenticeship 2012 Flat Rock, NC
Liz led a 4 month Women's Natural Building Apprenticeship in NC with 10 apprentices from all over the country. They lived and worked together, creating community and this really beautiful Women's Appalachian Earth Sanctuary, which will be enjoyed by women activists and artists as a retreat space for decades to come! Kleiwerks International Natural Building Extravaganza 2011
Liz Johndrow taught natural plastering, restoration and natural wall systems at this 3 week event which encompassed many more facets including round pole timber frame. bamboo construction, wood fired hot tub, stovetop, barrel oven and Rumford fireplace.
Timber Framing WorkshopsLiz Johndrow and Sarah Highland of Highland Artisan have taught workshops in CO , PA and NY where participants learned to cut and raise frames for a barn, woodshed, strawbale house, playhouse at community playground and an entryway for a strawbale house. Here are some photos of workshop results.
Strawbale HouseLiz Johndrow's most recent project was an owner /builder strawbale house in VT. She worked with the owner to cut a timber frame, install bales, complete the finishes with clay and lime plasters, and install an earthen floor. Liz has also worked on other strawbale projects in various capacities in a leadership role and as a team member.
